MobilePay is how Danes send money

In Denmark, sending someone money usually means MobilePay. Paying back a friend after a night out, chipping in for a gift at work, buying something on a second hand group: it all happens in the app. That habit carries over to streams. A Danish viewer who wants to support you will look for MobilePay first.

On DonoLink, a viewer on a phone taps MobilePay and is sent to the app to approve the donation, then lands back on your page. On a desktop, they type the phone number linked to MobilePay and approve the push notification on their phone. No card numbers, no account, and your alert can play on stream a moment later.

The page you're reading is in English, like the DonoLink.eu dashboard. Your Danish donors don't need to read English: they see the amount in kroner and the payment methods they recognise.

Payment methods for donors in Denmark

MobilePay is switched on by default for Danish creators and appears for donors once Stripe has activated it on your account, so you can offer it, but Stripe decides when it goes live. Cards, Apple Pay and Google Pay always work. One detail worth knowing: Stripe does not process the Dankort network itself, so a co-branded Visa/Dankort card is charged through Visa instead. You can show up to six methods per page, and PayPal is coming soon.

Danish kroner from donation to payout

Denmark does not use the euro, and a donation page that only charges in euro makes a 50 kroner tip look like a strange decimal amount. DonoLink charges Danish donors in DKK and pays you out in DKK through Stripe Connect, straight to your Danish bank account. No conversion in the middle.

DonoLink takes 3.5% of every successful donation. Stripe charges its own processing costs to your account separately, and they vary per payment method. For MobilePay, Stripe's documentation lists extra MobilePay fees, including a monthly membership fee for businesses registered in Denmark, so check Stripe's pricing for your account. Donors can choose to cover the DonoLink fee. Refunds, disputes and chargebacks run through Stripe on your own account.

Danish streams, Nordic chats

Danish streamers often switch between Danish and English, and chats regularly include viewers from Sweden, Norway and further abroad. Viewers outside Denmark can donate by card, Apple Pay or Google Pay; their bank converts from their own currency to DKK. Finnish viewers who use MobilePay in euro can still pay you by card.

Whatever you stream, DonoLink gives you OBS browser sources for donation alerts with your own media and text to speech, a goal bar, a leaderboard and a recent donations list. Follows, subs, raids and cheers from Twitch, Kick and YouTube can trigger alerts too. Linky, the DonoLink chatbot, can post your donation link in chat when people ask how to support you.

Compared with Streamlabs, StreamElements, Ko-fi and PayPal.me

Streamlabs and StreamElements are complete toolkits with tipping built in; check which methods and currency Danish viewers get before you pick one. Ko-fi suits memberships and small shops and pays out through PayPal or Stripe. A PayPal.me link is quick, but it doesn't show anything on stream. DonoLink is built around donations: MobilePay, DKK payouts, a flat 3.5% fee and overlays included.

Donations and tax in Denmark

Donations can be taxable income in Denmark. Look at what Skattestyrelsen writes on skat.dk about income from streaming and other online activities, or ask an accountant. Your DonoLink dashboard keeps a full overview of donations and payouts to help you report correctly.
