How to receive donations on Twitch

Twitch offers Bits and subscriptions, but no button to donate money directly to a streamer. That is why most streamers add an external donation link. Here is how to set it up properly with DonoLink, from link to on-screen alert.

Set up Twitch donations

  1. Create your DonoLink page and connect Stripe.
  2. Connect your Twitch channel for event alerts.
  3. Add the alerts in OBS and test them.
  4. Add your link to a panel and a chat command.

How to donate on Twitch as a viewer

Open the donation link shared by the streamer in their channel panels or chat. Check that the name and profile match the creator you want to support. On their DonoLink page, choose an amount and an optional message, then select one of the methods shown at checkout. You do not need a DonoLink account.

On mobile, open the same link in your phone's browser. If you cannot find it, ask the streamer or a moderator where their donation page is. Wait for payment confirmation before trying again: a missing on-screen alert does not prove that payment failed. Bits and subscriptions are separate forms of support handled by Twitch.

Bits, subscriptions and direct donations

Bits and subscriptions run through Twitch, which keeps a share and pays out on its schedule. A direct donation runs through your own page: the viewer chooses the amount and the payment is created on your connected Stripe account. The two complement each other.

Make it easy to find:

Show donations on screen

Add the DonoLink alerts browser source in OBS. Every donation triggers the alert you choose for its amount, with sound, animation and optional text-to-speech. Connect your Twitch channel as well to show follows, subs, raids and bits in the same queue.

Payments and fees

Viewers pay by card, Apple Pay, Google Pay and local methods per country (e.g. BLIK in Poland, Satispay in Italy, Swish in Sweden). Local methods appear once Stripe has activated them for your account. DonoLink charges 3.5% per successful donation; Stripe separately charges its fees to the creator. Viewers may cover the DonoLink fee if they wish.
